New options for annotating reports

  • Post category:General

The report annotation tool is used extensively in LabNBook. This year, almost 49,000 annotations were recorded by teachers! The system has been completely overhauled to correct a number of minor malfunctions and add new features.

What remains the same :

  • To add an annotation, the teacher selects text in a labdoc and clicks on one of the four annotation colours:
  • To make the task of writing annotations easier, the system suggests reusing the text of annotations previously made on reports for the same assignment, in the same part of the report and with the same colour.

What’s new :

  • To add an annotation to a title (report section or labdoc), you no longer need to highlight the title but use the annotation icon which appears when you hover over the right-hand side of the title:
  • An equation can be added to each annotation by clicking on the 𝚺
  • It is now possible to annotate images, drawings, graphics and code. To do this, click on the annotation icon at the top left of the section. The icon will turn orange, allowing you to add a coloured frame to locate the annotation on the zone.

  • All annotations are now grouped together in an ‘Annotations’ tool on the right-hand side of the report. Each annotation shows the initials of the annotator, the date of the annotation, the annotated text and the annotation text. No more annotations are lost, even if the annotated text has changed.

  • If the labdoc has been modified by the students after it has been annotated, the annotation contains a button enabling you to return to the version of the labdoc on which the annotation was made: it is therefore easy to find the context in which the annotation was created.

  • Students can hide an annotation once it has been processed by a member of the team: an interesting way of organising collaborative work.

As always, we welcome your feedback. We hope you enjoy using the new annotation tool: students say they appreciate LabNBook in particular because they receive more feedback from their teachers.
